A new project comes to Ballymun.. one with unique difference
The Ballymun is Brilliant project has just been awarded funding as one of the 43 creative projects in the Government’s new Creative Climate Action Fund.
The project is a partnership between three organisations based in Ballymun: Axis Theatre, Global Action Plan and the Rediscovery Centre.
The three organisations share a common approach to community-led change, and from January 2024 onwards, they will be working with individuals and local organisations in Ballymun to unlock the creativity of our community to develop new ideas to tackle climate change.
Ballymun has been designated as a ‘Decarbonisation Zone’. What this means is that under the Government’s Climate Action Plans, Ballymun can become an area “in which a range of climate mitigation, adaptation and biodiversity measures and action owners are identified to address local low carbon energy, greenhouse gas emissions and climate needs to contribute to national climate action targets”. The four project partners want to support this process by building public awareness and readiness to take action, using the artistic and creative potential of everyone in Ballymun.
The project is funded by the Government’s “Creative Climate Action Fund II: Agents of Change”, which supports initiatives linking artists and experts in climate science, sustainability and biodiversity, with the aim of helping people understand and influence the profound changes that are happening in our environment, society and economy as a result of climate change.
The project partners want to hear from anyone in Ballymun who has ideas on how to raise awareness of climate change and biodiversity loss, and how to bring about meaningful change in our local communities by inspiring people to take action.
