Ballymun Is Brilliant is a celebration of the creativity of Ballymun’s residents and vibrant community groups.

Through chats over cuppas, moments of inspiration and creating amazing art, together we will explore the brilliance of Ballymun. We will honour its past, live the present and imagine our collective future. And we will creatively look at ways we can continue to build a resilient and sustainable Ballymun together.
During 2024 and 2025, we will be coming together to discuss issues such as:

• How we connect with each other, and with the natural world;
• Our relationship with nature and green spaces in Ballymun;
• Themes that emerge from the community such as food, fashion and biodiversity;
• Places where everyone feels welcome and safe;
• What makes Ballymun Brilliant! 

We’re going to look at the past, present and future experiences of people in Ballymun and, with the help of artists, we will use art and creativity to tell these stories.

The project has a focus on climate justice and fairness for everyone in the community. We want to explore ideas for building a future that works for the people of Ballymun and for the planet we all live on.

Events, workshops, mentoring sessions and art exhibitions will take place all around Ballymun. Axis Ballymun will be the focal point for many of the activities. You can find out more about these on our website and social media channels. We will share posters and leaflets and will bring them to you and your groups. The project team will also come for chats and a cuppa wherever you are. Together we can explore how to support groups and organisations around Ballymun. Many of you have met them already and if not, get in touch!

You have told us that there have been too many projects in Ballymun asking for ideas. We have heard that many of these turn into nothing. Many projects have made promises that are not fulfilled and aren’t honest about what they can achieve. With this in mind, we will:

1. Value the community’s input
2. Share what we learn each step of the way 
3. Be clear about what we can do together and what is outside our project remit  
4. Have fun together as we vibrantly and creatively celebrate all that is brilliant in Ballymun. 

A community advisory committee will help us connect the project more deeply to the local community and support accountability and transparency.

Ballymun is Brilliant is funded by the Government’s Creative Climate Action Fund and is built on a partnership between three organisations with strong roots supporting the community in Ballymun: Axis Ballymun, Global Action Plan and the Rediscovery Centre. The project runs until the end of 2025.
