Róisín Dexter – Power With

About Róisín

Accomplished Musician and former Primary School Teacher, Róisín Dexter now works as a Creative Climate Coach, dedicating her 20+ years’ experience as a dynamic artist, educator and ecologist to supporting people on their journeys of personal, collective and ecological regeneration, drawing on Creativity and the Arts. Róisín is a certified Life Coach practising in the Dublin Wellbeing Centre, and a registered Active Hope facilitator.

In response to her own burn-out as an environmental activist, She started studying Joanna Macy’s Active Hope in 2019, and subsequently trained with Anna Swisher, a former student of Macy’s. She is a Creative Associate with the Arts Council’s Creative Schools programme and an active member of the Climate Coaching Alliance.

Project Details

What do you think of when you hear the word POWER?

In this family art workshop we explored what it means for us each to have power – the ability to change things and make things happen. We each remembered times in our lives when we did something or said something that made a difference, and we realised that this is power! But it is not a POWER-OVER – a harmful type of power which we see so much of in our world.This is a POWER-WITH. This is the power that nature shows us, and this is real power, the type of power that can make our world a better place.

This power grows even more when we have power WITH nature. We teamed up with nature to craft together, and make this piece. Can you spot rowan berries, bay leaves, leaf prints of alder, willow and maple, bendy willow sticks, lavender, wool and cotton? Together we also thought about the inner qualities we need to make a difference in our world, and we wrote some of these around the outside of the circle.
